Based on development activities conducted at the Sri Pada Uda Maluwa which is considered of prime importance by Buddhist devotees the world over, the biggest ever operations were carried out by the Sri Lankan Air Force in its entire history for a period of 7 days.
The task of the Air Force was to airlift a brass bell and Dolosmahe Pahana (Eternal flame oil lamp) and pillar made of rock from Nallathanniya Lakshapana estates sportsground upto the Sri Pada Uda Maluwa. This entire project had been sponsored by philanthropist Mr. Thusitha Wijeysena, Chairman and CEO of Kandy City Centre on a concept of Chief Incumbent of Sri Padasthana, Bogamuwe Dhammadinna Thero.
The W.M. 17 helicopter was involved in 23 trips on this operation fora period running into 7 days. 28 photos from HERE
