9 Deputy Ministers were sworn-in a short while ago in the presence of the Hon. President, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksha.
The ceremony had taken place at the Presidential Secretariat and the positions designated to the Deputy Ministers are as follows: Deputy Minister of Education -- Mr. Mohan Lal Grero, Deputy Minister of Posts -- Mr. Sanath Jayasuriya, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Affairs -- Mr. Lakshman Wasantha, Deputy Minister of Labour and Labour Relations -- Mr. Sarath Weerasekera, Deputy Minister of Agriculture -- Mr. Y.G. Padmasiri, Deputy Minister of Co-operative and Trade Affairs -- Mr. Hemal Gunasekera and Deputy Minister of Coconut Deveopment and Janatha Estate -- Mr. Anthony Victor Perera.
Mr. Chandrasiri Muthukumarana as Deputy Minister of Rehabilitation and Resettlement and Mr. Nishantha Muthuhettige as Deputy Minister of Minor Export Crop Production too took their oaths in the presence of the Hon. President.

Sri Lanka has already entered the Guiness Book of Records for having named the biggest number of Ministers for the parliament and is updating the record further this time by taking steps to include Deputy Ministers with the idea of pleasing a few minority parties with whom agreements have been made and also to please a few who had made applications for the post of a Deputy Minister and have been keeping their fingers crossed for sometime.
Accordingly, though the names of the21 have not been publicly announced, according to reports received by us, political sources say that the following are among them: Nishantha Muthuhettigama, Sanath Jayasuriya, Lakshman Wasantha Perera, Hemal Gunasekera, Victor Anthony, Niranjan Wickremasingha, P. Digambaran, Prabhaganeshan and J. Shri Ranga.
Members of parliament who were elected at the last general election having held their membership as PC members and a small section of MPs of minor parties of the UPFA and those who managed to claim the biggest number of preferential votes on district level are expected to be sworn-in.
It is understood that 9 members will be taking oaths as Deputy Ministers at the Presidential Secretariat.
