Dilshan speaks about his political appearance

Replies given by Dilshan when asked about coming into politics ...at the media briefing

T.M. Dilshan who called a media discussion in relation to bading goodbye to Test cricket said that he is resigning this way in order to provide the opportunity for a new player and that he is making this move well in advance. He further said that he would continue playing in one-day matches as well as 20 - 20 matches.

At this point a mediamen queried that there is a rumour that he would  be following in the footsteps of Sanath Jayasuriya and is preparing to come into politics in the future; and whether the rumour is true.

Though Dilshan did not deny it, he said, "I didn't still think of it," with a smile on his face, thus providing a clue that he would be taking such a decision in the future.

"Test cricket is not an easy thing ... one must launch oneself into it with a good mentality ... must  have a lot of practice ... must have a lot of experience ... the freshers should strive to face such experiences as much as possible. On this occasion I have come to a decision to give a newcomer a good opportunity. In all 5 forthcoming games they can gain experience on good pitches. If a fresher can make use of that opportunity ... I'll also be happy" explained Dilshan.

The ideas expressed by Dilshan as to whether he would step into politics is as follows: "There's no such idea still ... because I'll be really busy ... in the next 2 years I have to do a big service to the one-day and 20 - 20 teams ... on behalf of my team. I have directed my thoughts on that ... instead of thinking of politics, so far. Before  coming into politics ... must learn something about it ... but so far I haven't received an invitation"............................................
