Method to track it from an SMS method
A group of students from the Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering Department of the University of Moratuwa have been successful in devising a searching software which helps searching for any book for those visiting the International Book Exhibition which is held at the BMICH in Colombo from today (14) to the 22nd.
It is somewhat of a difficult task to search for a book one wants in perusing through hundreds of stalls and therefore the system devised is certainly a great support for those searching for a book.
Dialog Company and Sri Lanka Book Publisher's Association have given the support necessary while the software containing all data of books kept on display are available.
Those who want to search for a book avail themselves of this facility by utilising this data software which has been named as Book Seeker. This opportunity could be activated across the mobile phone through an SMS.
When the name of a book is mentioned as SMS from a Dialog number to the location which activates this software, as a response to the request made, information would be supplied as to from which stall the required book could be found.
Creators of this devise say that information relating to the book asked for could be found from one's home itself before visiting the book exhibition.
HOW TO SEARCH FOR THE BOOK
Prior to making use of this facility, one should register with this service with Dialog through an SMS. For this purpose, an SMS should be sent to 77115 by typing reg (space) isk. Later, when the necessity to search for a book arises, one has only to send a message to 77115 by typing isk space 'name of book'. For example, if the book searched for is, Madol Duwa, it should be typed as isk Madol Doowa
In a short while the reply would be sent.
Registration should be done only on the first occasion only and thereafter this service could be utilised throughout the exhibition.
The devisers of this software mention that even if the name of the book is sent without accuracy, such inaccuracies would be corrected and a message would be sent with the name corrected, while if the book is not available at the exhibition or if a large number of mistakes are observed, several connected titles of the same book that are close to that title would be sent. This software is in operation presently and would last till the 22nd when the exhibition would come to a close.
The students of Moratuwa, Subodha Charles, Buddhaya Gamlath, Sameera Ramasingha, Lakshitha Chathuranga, Ravitha Muthukumarana, Kaushala Priyadarshana have used Dialog ideamark platform for this invention. The Colombo International Book Exhibition would be on display from today the 22nd from 9.oo a.m. to 9.oo p.m. Entrance fees would be Rs.10.oo per head.
