Though Sri Lanka was beaten in the one-day match with South Africa played on Friday, Thisara Perera was successful enough to crack a record 35 runs playing an outstanding innings. It was in the 33rd over of the innings. The bowler was Robin Peterson. By that time, Sri Lanka was in a hopeless position with 7 wickets down for a paltry 94 runs when he began to slam 6, 1wide in the process, 6,6,6,4 and 6 from the first ball he faced ... totalling 35 runs.

Thisara amassed 65 runs in this innings in 49 balls. His 35 runs was the second highest total clinched in an over in one-day matches. Prior to this too, Gibbs of South Africa had collected a record 36 runs against the Netherlands in the period 2006-7. It was Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka who was among the records for having collected 30 runs. That record can be seen below:
