I was sleepwalking .... that's what happened These are small things
- Keheliya
Ramith Rambukwella and his Minister-father Keheliya have expressed their ideas in relation to the incident in relation to the allegation that Ramith faced that he had tried to open a door of an aircraft because he was drunk.
What Ramith says is that he has a problem of sleepwalking and that he was not drunk at the moment when that incident happened.
In the meantime, what the Minister says is that this is a minor incident and something that the British press also considered as trivial but which the Sri Lanka media has had made big issue of it.
The way in which Ramitha spoke about this is as follows:
"Even when I was small I had been walking in my sleep. I went to open the door of the aircraft in my sleep and not while intoxicated. It was later that I came to know why I was being questioned on this incident and the previous day we had broken rest for quite a long time. And the other thing is I'm not so much of a buffalo to open the door of an aircraft. Test reports can be made to find out whether I did have alcohol or not. For foreigners the son of a Minister is not a big thing. If I was drunk .... I'll still be there. Already British Airways has released a report".
This is what the Minister of Media Keheliya Rambukwella had to say about this:
"As soon as my son came to Sri Lanka he told me about this. He said that he apologised to those in the aircraft. There's not even a distance of even 2 meters between the rear door and the toilet door. Anybody could be subjected to a mistake like this. Even before this it has happened. British Airways says that it could happen in the future too. This is a minor incident. The sad thing is that when a report has been released by British Airways, what was published or broadcast on almost every media was that what was published in the Daily Mail newspaper. What was in that newspaper was that a person aged 23 got frightened and shouted. That was what was taken by the media. I have the report by British Airways. It is mentioned there that this is a minor incident. It says that even before this, incidents like this have happened and that such incidents could happen in the future also. Maybe because Keheliya Rambukwella is a famous person .... and that maybe why the incident concerning his son got so much publicity like this!"
