The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has questioned and recorded statements from the wife and son of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who is currently evading arrest despite a court order. The interrogation took place at their residence in Hokandara.
The Matara Magistrate’s Court had issued an immediate arrest warrant for IGP Tennakoon. However, as he has fled and remains in hiding, the CID has been unable to apprehend him.
When CID officers initially visited Tennakoon’s residence, no one was present. After multiple visits and surveillance efforts, they were eventually able to question his wife and son on Thursday.
Reports indicate that both Tennakoon’s wife and son had also been missing from their residence for some time. However, they returned home recently, as the son is scheduled to sit for the Ordinary Level (O/L) examination.
The investigation into IGP Tennakoon remains active, with law enforcement authorities intensifying efforts to locate and arrest him. Legal proceedings regarding the court order are also ongoing.
