China earthquake which took 179 lives
The number of deaths due to the earthquake which occured in Southwest China in the province of Sichuan yesterday has by now risen to 179. According to reports of China Shinghua news service, the earthquake has occured as deep as 12 kms in the earth in Shinghua. The first earthquake has been recorded at approximately 8 in the morning. According to UCPS reports, it is said that the earthquake had a Richter-scale of 6.6 while according to the Chinese Earthquake Scale Network, it was reported as 7.0 .
Official reports issued so far say that the number of deaths confirmed are 179 and those wounded are 6,700 in number.
This province which is most vulnerable to earthquakes recorded a massive earthquake in the year 2008 where 87,000 died.
