SMS SENDER WHO THREATENED NUWARA ELIYA WASANTHAYA, NABBED

Colombo International school student sends SMS , threatening Muslims not to attend Nuwara Eliya Wasanthaya

     Authorities who inquired into the drop of Muslim visitors to the Nuwara Eliya Wasantha Samaya held during the past few days were able to track a threatening SMS message  supposed to have been sent to Muslims. Later the case was handed over to the CID for inquiry. The SMS message had been received by a number of people with the message 'Be careful if you come anywhere near Nuwara Eliya Wasantha Samaya". The police were able to find out that they were forwarded messages and then checked with telephone companies and from where the originally forwarded messages came from.

    It was revealed that this clever creation was the work of a school child resident in Colombo 15. Police were able to uncover further information that he was studying in a very popular international school in Colombo. On questioning him, it was found that this threat had been created by him solely for the sake of fun.

   With the anti-Muslim propaganda springing up during the recent past via the Facebook and various other media, he had thought of doing something novel and had created a message of this sort for fun which actually had been planned to scare a Muslim friend of his who had been planning to go to Nuwara Eliya. This student who had copied it and forwarded it to some other friends and a few relatives had been able to derive some fun out of it. 

   This message had been copied and circulated even further through those relatives and friends. Whatever it is, the police had found out that the message had been just a false alarm and that they had not received any information to confirm that the Sinhala community or any organisation has had any necessity to make any threats.

   From a research conducted among priests of mosques in Nuwara Eliya, it was confirmed that they had not informed any of their devotees to refrain from visiting Nuwara Eliya because of a message such as this and that they had no idea about this particular message.
