Prdeep Kariyawasam released on Rs 100 lakhs Bail and his passport impounded.
The former Chief Justice Shiranee Bandaranayake’s husband Pradeep Kariyyawasam who was the Chairman of the National Savings Bank was accused for misappropriation of NSB funds by withdrawing the customers’ money and buying shares at a reputed finance company.
The case was taken up at the Colombo Magistrate courts today. He was allowed bail for a sum of Rs 100 lakhs and was ordered not to leave the Island. The charges aimed at him was that while serving as a government servant he had invested money belonging to the NSB on the Finance company shares?
The bribery commission had filed a case against him in October 2012 against corruption and misappropriation of government funds. He was present in courts today. He was released on personal bail of Rs 100 lakhs and his passport had to be surrendered to courts. After his wife was subjected to as a victim of an impeachment while serving as the country’s Chief Justice many purple had gathered in and around the Courts premises to hear of his judgement.
