MISDIAGNOSIS OF LEUKEMIA

The child who was hospitalised for fever was misdiagnosed as Leukemia –had been administered strong drugs

Now as a result treated at the ICU


A 14 year old school going student had been admitted to hospital for having fever. His fever had been misdiagnosed as Leukemia. After administering strong drugs he had been sick for a period of 1 ½ years. As his condition had become bad now he is treated at the Intensive Care Unit.
The boy who had been confronted with this unfortunate incident is a native of Udabulathgama area in Ginigathhena and his name is Navishka Ranasinghe who is 14 years old. he is a Grade 8 student at Medi Vidyalaya in Ginigathhena. His father R.H.P.H Ranasinghe related that in September 2011the child was admitted to the Nawalapitiya hospital after a bout of fever.
The doctors had said as his blood content had been low they have diagnosed as typhoid or dengue and was transferred to the Kandy hospital to a cancer ward. However it was the opinion of the father although he was transferred to a cancer ward he was treated for some other decease.When the fathe had inquired from the doctors they had told that they had taken blood twice from his hip area. After obtaining the blood reports the doctors had told that the boy had acquired a rare type of cancer. Hence they had decided to treat him for cancer.
The boy had been given two injections on the 15th October containing strong drugs. The boys nails had turned blue and the boy had become weak, had been unable to walk properly. Before administering the injections he had been alright heath wise
The father had decided to admit the boy to a private hospital. The doctors opposed for it.When inquiries were made the Kandy hospital doctors admitted that he had been given the wrong treatment and had requested the boy to be admitted to the cancer hospital. It is learnt that his platelet count in the blood too was coming down. Samples of his blood had been sent to India. The reports had revealed that he had not acquired cancer.
The child had become weaker and weaker. In the month of may 2012 the boy had been admitted to ward No 41.The boy had not been able to stand up had become weaker and weaker. He had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit from January 2013.This is as his condition was very serious. The father had sacrificed for the sake of his son for 9 months without even going home.he had gone to take treatment for a small ailment and now heis suffering in grief by shedding tears.
