GREAT DOCTOR IN WATAWALA BUS INCIDENT

Timely action taken by a young doctor has made possible to save many valuable lives in the Watawala bus accident:

The day before yesterday the 21st a Hatton bound bus plying from Colombo belonging to the Hatton CTB depot had around 5 p.m. gone down a precipice about 25 feet in the Watawala/Rozella area injuring many passengers, some very seriously. In this accident 14 passengers had sustained serious injuries. It was reported that the injured had been admitted to Watawala and Nawalapitiya base hospitals.
At the time of the accident a young government doctor had been driving to his home in Hatton when he had seen the accident. He had immediately got off his vehicle and gone near the scene of the accident. With the help of the neighbours he had helped those seriously injured patients to be taken out in the proper manner and had transferred them to the Watawala and Nawalapitiya hospitals.
The doctor is Ravindra Kumar Sudarshana of Tamil nationality, a resident of Trincomalee had only served as a doctor for a period of only two years after passing out. His timely efforts and intervention had been able to save a lot of lives, particularly as he was able to assess the gravity of the injuries caused to the passengers. His mindeful action was hailed and acclaimed by the Police and the onlookers who in fact were all very surprised.
That’s not only what he rendered as a service from his learnt medical profession. He too had attended to dress the injured passengers’ co-ordinating properly with the medical staff of the Watawala Base hospital. This action was hailed and praised by the staff of the Watawala hospital.
The Chief Medical Officer at the Watawala hospital Dr (Mrs) Ayesha Wettasinghe had told that this doctor had only worked at the Dickoya Base hospital for a period of two years after passing out as a doctor. His action is a credit to the entire medical profession. Even he had taken the initiative in calling the District Medical Officer of Health Dickoya , Dr Nihal Weerasuriya to send all the Ambulances available to transfer those injured seriously to the Nawalapitiya hospital as the Ambulance at the Watawala hospital was insufficient.
This young doctor a Tamil National hailing from Tricomalee has set an example to other doctors and his dedication to this cause is a very good example to be imitated by  the entire medical profession.
