LIGHTNING DAMAGES LION’S PAW AT SIGIRIYA

A huge damage has been caused to the Lion’s paw at the entrance to the Sigiriya frescos

Yesterday in the afternoon around 2.30 p.m. the huge Lion statue at the entrance to the historical Sigiriya frescos entrance had been damaged owing to striking of lightning. The extent of the damage could be gauged when the amount of bricks that were thrown out of the paw of the Lion statue were observed as shown in the photograph alongside.
The employees who were working had heard a bid noise which was then followed with the breakage of paw area of the huge Lion statue erected at the entrance to this very historical place. This place has a long ancient reputation of historic value and hence the related authorities in charge of this historical place intend to renovate and bring it to its original form very soon.
