KOTTE MURDERS & THE STORY OF A SWORD

In the hearing of the Kotte double murder case at Magistrates inquiries, the chief Incumbent says in his evidence:
NO SWORDS AT TEMPLE.........

After the two kings of the two monks at the Raja Maha Viharaya last week which shocked the entire country, the Magistrate inquiry was held on Monday after the evidence of the Chief Incumbent and of other monks were recorded, the Magisterial inquiry commenced.
In complete contrast to the to what was said in several media it was revealed there was no expensive sword that belonged to the ’Sapumal Prince’ or any other expensive item of historical or having antique value were in inside the temple premises. The only and most precious item was the “relics casket’ which was place locked up in the temple’s main palace.
However the Chief Incumbent, had commented that he was unaware if any other items belonged to the other monks had been kept within the temple premises. This was quipped by the Chief Incumbent Ven, Aluthnuwara Anuradha thera who had occupied the temple since the year 1968..
There had been 10 other monks in the temple. The two monks who were killed had lived at the ‘Jayanthi’ temple before the Chief Incumbent had come to the temple. Ven Pitigala Jinarathana thera was called ‘Panditha’ as he conducted all ‘Sil’ and ‘Bhavana’ campaigns. The other deceased monk Ven. Gunaratna thera had lived in the temple for 30 years. He was in charge of ‘pirith chanting’ ceremonies.
The temple had consisted of 5 rooms. On the 20th night the day of the tragedy Ven.Jinasena thera had been ordered to sit on the ‘commode’ of the bathroom and brutally stabbed to death. The other deceased monk Ven. Gunaratna thera had been also stabbed and had been seen fallen wounded near his bed room. He was taken to the kalubowila hospital. But  had succumbed to his injuries, before admission.
The Police were informed and they had arrived from the Mirihana Police station within about 5 minutes. The number of the vehicle had been obtained from the devotee children who had written the vehicle number on the sandy surface in the temple premises. The Chief Incumbent had surprisingly had quipped that he had never seen these two suspects within the temple premises.
The main suspect according to media reports had told that the main suspect had been living in the temple as a monk. This is contrasting evidence.
The information that the’ gold sword’, belonging to the 4th Buwenakabahu king also known as ‘Sapumal Prince’ had been inside the temple premises. This was also a contrasting statement which was totally denied by the Chief Incumbent of the Raja Maha Viharaya. Hence this statement made in the media is also not true.
