DHARMASIRI ARRESTED
Kavindya’s body had been identified At the mortuary by Dharmasiri without any difficulty:
He had been the main distributor of drugs in Pelmadulla, Kahawatte and Ratnapura areas.
It is reported that the most wanted suspect in the double murder in Kahawatte, the Co-ordinating Secretary to the Minister John Seneviratna. Member of Godakawela,Pradeshiya Sabha, Dharmasiri has been arrested by the Police. He had owned a house at Ranala in Kaduwela area, but when the Police had gone there he had not been there, but he had been caught at an alternate place faraway, but this location has not been disclosed.
To carry out further investigations he had been taken for questioning and to get an arrest order he had been taken to the official residence of the Magistrate of Pelmadulla, it is reported. He had been ordered to be remanded for 48 hours for questioning.
In the meantime the wife of Dharmasiri had been taken for interrogation by the Police. Meanwhile at a press briefing Minister John Seneviratna had told that Dharmasiri had worked for him as his co-ordinator for nearly 10 years and he was not at all aware that neither Dharmasiri nor his brother were engaged in drug business. He had told that he has already been sacked and if he is proved guilty he has to be punished according to the law.
However according to last week’s weekend ‘Divaina’ newspaper where all details of a telephone conversation was published. It was reported that Dharmasiri had confessed that he is not guilty of any offence and hence he cannot be punished as he is innocent and this matter is not relevant to him.
There had been a lot of speculation that for some reason or other the investigations were delayed as there were several interested parties who prevented or tried to delay the investigations been conducted. However the CID is making every possible effort to resolve this case early.
It is learnt that Dharmasiri had been carrying on his drug business for a long time with a drug dealer in Ja-Ela. Since he was the a co-ordinating Secretary of a Minister and that he was also a member of the Godakawela Pradeshiya Sabha, he has had so many advantages in carrying out his drug business without much obstacles and hindrances.
The son of the suspect Dharmasiri, Mihilaka Sampath had been employed as a welfare officer at the prison. For carrying on the drug business within the prison he is also now serving a jail sentence. The main cause of the double murder it has now been revealed is because Nilmini, one of the two who was murdered had complained to the Police about the drug business. The suspects have killed her and the daughter so that no evidence could be obtained from them for the complaint made.
It is learnt that the monopoly of the drug business in Kahawatta,Pelmadulla and Ratnapura had been between the two brothers. Now it is learnt that the business has dwindled as the two joint business partners of the drug distribution are in custody.
When the police has questioned Dharmasiri, he had said he was not aware of anything. But he had said to get at the root of the murders he had deployed 5 persons to find clues about the murders to help the Police in their investigations.
