BOC ATM at Kantale robbed, by a drug addict
A few days ago it was reported that the ATM of a Bank of Ceylon branch was broken and a large sum of money amounting to Rs 66 lakhs had been robbed.
After 5 days after the incident the robber had been arrested by the Police. It is reported that the robber had been a drug addict. The person had lived in Kantale, Peraru area had been caught by the Police after having received a ‘tip off’ when the Police had announced that any person who could give a clue would be richly rewarded. The information about him had been received from his neighbours.
When the Police visited his house he had not been at home. When the house was searched the Police had been able to recover a sum of Rs 42 lakhs. When the Police finally traced him he has had in his possession a further sum of Rs 19 lakhs. Police is making investigations as to what had happened to the remaining money. The suspect is to be produced before courts.
