Pedestrians to cross road only at demarcated crossings
It has been made compulsory from today for pedestrians to cross only from the demarcated yellow road crossings it has been reported that a special Police unit has been deployed in Colombo to apprehend those who cross roads at will and random. It is learnt that those who are caught are given one warning and if they repeat the offence would be arrested and taken to courts for prosecution.
It is however not known how those who had broken the law once are to be identified if the mistake is repeated. After several road repairs it is learnt that many pedestrian crossings have been erased. These are been re drawn in yellow at appropriate places.
But where there no road crossings from where are the pedestrians able to cross the road. The traffic lights too have been made to function properly for the convenience of pedestrians.
