A ceremony was held this morning at the Jaffna library premises to felicitate the students in Jaffna district who obtained highest marks at the Grade 5 scholarship examination, where the Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena participated as the chief guest. The Minister of Education was placed in a very embarrassing position when the student who was the recipient of the highest marks in the district refused to worship him.
This refusal was made while three other students, Mani Dharshika, Ramesh and Sharmika Sharvananda had worshipped the Minister by bending and touching his feet. The highest marks receiver a Tamil student Shedu Ragavan, refused to worship the Minister and ignored the matter by looking onto some other side.
It is learnt that at functions this student usually behaves differently and answered the Media personnel in this manner:
“I studied in a school in Mullativu area amidst a lot of hardships. The credit of my success should only go to my dear parents and the teachers who taught me and no one else deserves credit”
