GIRL RAPED AT MAIN MATARA EXAM CENTRE

While a drinking session was in progress in the examination hall, a 10 year old girl raped

After the completion of the Advanced level examination at a school in Matara area where co-ordinating activities took place, amidst a drinking session a young girl had been raped. An ex Airman of the SLAF, Examiners, Police personnel, a group consisting of 9 persons have been arrested. It is reported that the ex airman had joined the party for the drinking session.
During this time a teacher, students and a few parents had visited the school for cleaning the classrooms before the commencement of the third term after the conclusion of the holidays. While the cleaning was in progress, a mother with her two daughters had been playing outside the school premises. A 10 year old girl without the knowledge of her mother had been dragged into a class room by the drunken ex Airman of the SLAF and raped her.
When the young girl had screamed, all those present had rushed to see her. She was found fainted and with blood spread around her. Immediately she had been rushed to the Matara hospital where she was admitted and had to undergo an operation to restore broken tissues in her sensitive vagina area with the aid of a number of sutures.
It was learnt she was raped by Buddhika Nuwan Kumar an ex Airman of the SLAF, a native of Denipitiya.
This incident had taken place at Telijjawila Royal College situated along the Matara-Akuressa route. This school had been a location to collect answer papers and hence has had enough protection from Police constables, school inspectors. But regardless of the security the liquor party had taken place while the answer papers were been collected. It is against the law, rules and regulations to consume liquor and it is prohibited for outsiders ( ex Airman of the SLAF) to enter such a place

particularly In the presence of the chief co-ordinating examination officer.
After the incident the neighbours had cordoned the school premises, informed the Police and had handed all of them to the Police. The accused had fled away, but was apprehended by the Police. All of them had been produced before the Additional Magistrate’s official residence was remanded. The co-ordinating examination officer, a Police constable and the watcher who were not under the influence of liquor were released on personal bail amounting to Rs 1 lakh each on the orders of the Matara Additional Magistrate Miss Dulani Amarasinghe. Further investigations are been conducted.
