When you were about to disclose the names of those who fixed matches why did you disappear, and reappear again?.’Gossiplankanews’ web site met Hashan to find out as to know what exactly happened. Hashan’s answer was it was with a view to protect our cricket and the impact of ‘match fixing ‘causes to our cricket.
Following are the suggestions in this regard:

There was a huge tension and interest amongst our cricketing fraternity what you were to disclose about ‘match fixing’?
It all started when I was in a ‘live’ television discussion, when one particular cricket fan questioned me about my real conscience about ‘match fixing’. That prompted me to disclose about ‘match fixing’. I was asked whether the World Cup Final was ‘fixed’. Actually I answered as there was nothing of that sort. However I disclosed that from the year 1992 some matches from time to time were ‘fixed’.

Why are you keeping silent with regard to matches that were fixed after 1992?
‘I could not did reveal owing to matters concerning security.But I never expected any political advantage over this issue. Certain government media personnel and some other individuals directed allegations against me.’

How is that, the Minister of Sports accepted what you had confessed? During a Media conference you did not make the exposures?
‘This was due very particular reasons I did not disclose names. Those who were involved would feel about it. As I said earlier I was not provided security’.

Could you tell the names of those who fixed matches?
Not immediately. Now behind me and possess political strength. During the years 1986-1987, we played cricket, against many obstacles and constraints. At that time there were only 6-7 persons in the top chairs. After 1996 the ’Mudalalis’ occupied the main chairs of the Cricket Board. They possessed enough money but they came mainly to make their names prominent. These ‘Mudalalis’ bought cricketers for money. But I did not get into that net. Because of the ‘Mudalalis’ the team split into two.’

What is your relationship with Danuna Tillekeratne?
‘He is my cousin brother. He was living with me. After he left I never saw him again.

Where is he now?
‘I do not know about his whereabouts’.


There are cricketers who are engaged in politics. Could they contribute to our cricket?
‘I came to politics after saying good bye to my cricketing career. But my view is taking part in politics while playing cricket is harmful. From my knowledge of cricket I could definitely contribute to our cricket. But it is not happening. To do something I have no powers and an opportunity. I however has an intention of commencing a cricket school free of charge to train youngsters’

Do you have any intension of coming to the SLC ?
‘When the correct time comes with an atmosphere conducive to me i will join SLC, .There is no query about it, however not definitely under a politician as a ‘henchman’.
