A huge leopard killed to earn Rs 2 Lakhs for flesh
In Giritale preserved area in Minneriya, it is reported that a huge Leopard had been shot dead by two persons. The two persons had been arrested by the Wild Life Department officers. They had confessed that the authorities of a tourist hotel in the vicinity had promised to pay them Rs 2 lakhs for the contract and the money would be paid once the Leopard was handed over to them. The Leopard killed was very huge, about 7 feet in length.
They had cordoned the Leopard before shooting. The assistance of several others too had been taken for this exercise. The two suspects were produced before the Dambulla Magistrate for the offence of killing a rare type of wild animal species. The photos are shown below:
