GOSSIP WEB SITES NOT APPRECIATED

UDARI, JACKSON, AYOMI AND UDAYANTHI HAVE DENOUNCED
‘GOSSIP’ WEB SITE NEWS

In today’s (Sunday) Silumuna’s tabloid edition of ‘RASADUNA’, Udari Warnakulasuriya, Jackson Anthony, Ayomi Shanika and Udayanthi Kulatunga had aired views and made drastic comments, in an interview, they have had with a journalist in the Silumina paper. Their views together with the rest of the article are appended below: Overall it had been said that the ‘Gossip’ web sites carrying incorrect information which is spread worldwide via the internet have defamed and harmed their established reputations, characters and popularity. This bogus information not only reflects badly on them but also our country which causes embarrassment to the artistes concerned. What are stated below are their interpretations they have added mostly as fabricated stories.

Udari Warnakulasuriya: “My name had been given more space in many ‘gossip’ websites which goes to the internet simultaneously. It should be emphasised that every month certain comments have been made against me with the clear intention of insulting me. Of course ‘gossip’ about us should be published. However they must not be made to disgrace us. This has to be stopped. When dubious reports are made how I could face my fans and the general public. Once a news was published quoting me with a politician and in another instance have quoted I had been with a popular personality. Those who dislike us rising up the ladder to stardom resort to, and indulge in such acts. I do not succumb to such pity things. They attack highly productive trees. I take everything in a very positive manner. No one could stop me from the path I am going through. I pity those shameless people who sell my name trying to make their web sites popular. They should be brought to book and punished the manner our ancient kings did.”

Udayanthi Kulatunga: “My name has been subjected to severe insult of a very large magnitude. They have made a false ‘gossip’ connecting me with a famous veteran musician. This news was published in a certain web site. I classify those who run such websites as very cruel personnel. I have only sympathy towards them. I do not fall mentally on hearing them. When such a thing happens to an ordinary person, it even ends in suicide. This false ‘gossip’ which spread widely was questioned over the phone by many. It is very regretting and feels sad over this false episode. They should be punished the manner the ancient kings punished the accused. I like if they are hung to death. This type of false ‘gossip’ cannot by any means stop me from becoming popular and climbing the ladder. I take full responsibility to inform the related authorities to impose punishment on them. What happens to me today will happen to another colleague actress via these not so established web sites. The good deeds what we do are not made public via these web sites.”

Ayomi Shanika: “It is my fervent view that those who are engaged in these web sites should be identified and given the highest punishment. When a culprit is dealt in that manner the others will not get indulged in such ‘gossip’. My character had been defamed in such web sites. Many insults had been made to my character. The good what I have done have not been made public. They have made false allegations against me against the law. Without a fire no flames could emerge.”

Jackson Anthony: “Internet means the most technically designed media server to the entire world. This superior technology is displayed by equally superior media personnel. It would happen in the proper manner in all countries but without any doubt sans our country. A village newsletter hung on a tree is also a message. Media personnel should take more responsibilities than the ‘jungle letter’ writers. In this country there is a media sector that has surpassed even the established professional media personnel. The responsibility of spreading the news item without distortion lies entirely on the shoulders of the media reporter. This responsibility does not lie on the shoulders of bogus media personnel. He resembles a ‘jungle’ media reporter writing senseless reports. It could be compared with ‘throwing stones at reputed personalities’, ‘Owls who prefer to take shelter in fertile trees’, ‘thunder strikes only on very fertile trees’ etc. These resemble identically to the web sites of our country. Fire flames without a fire are seen in these web sites. They are unconcerned about the lie and the deep lie. They are the least concerned about the true facts. They are used to exaggerate lies. They sling mud by publishing bogus and distorted news is their foremost motive. They are not aware of what publicity and popularity means? One cannot become popular or a hero by standing nude on the road. By making an allegation via a news deviating from the true facts attacking a popular personality also do not make way to popularise the web site. This allegation cannot be directed at all web sites. I have personally benefited and got educated by reading news in certain web sites. The true media personnel have to be identified from the anonymous cyber petition writer. These anonymous bogus cyber media should be properly identified. They drastically affect the entire media of the country. We have to stand erect against them without succumbing, if not the future generation, media and cyber systems would become below par.”
