It has been emphasised in an advertisement in today’s print media the message ‘No’ to the dreadful homosexual fear .By exposing the homosexual fear episode of love, the text of the advertisement explains that those involved have to consider it as an extremely non conducive habit in one’s life. However when it is closely scrutinised, the summary of it conveys, not to focus attention on it and to talk against it. This advertisement published in the newspapers could be read.
Within our country with a different culture there is no room for a debate or discussion unlike in the Western countries. This commercial advertisement has been published, by a Non Governmental Organisation by the name” Equal Ground”. This NGO had been responsible for organising a homosexual fashion show in the past.
With regard to homosexuality among men named “Gay Pride promotion’, presentation was exhibited in countries the world over and in Sri Lanka. The other south Asian countries however protested and prevented its publicity. From the above it reveals that anyone who could spend lavishly by throwing an enormous amount of money could publish such advertisements not at all conducive to our culture. From the above one could come to a conclusion that it is very much regretted that our authorities under whose purview our culture revolves around are incapable of preventing occurrences of this nature. At an earlier occasion the news of this homosexual exhibition was reported by Gossiplankanews web site. see that HERE

ReplyDeleteSo much for democracy, then!
This is not a "promotion". They are simply asking people to treat them like humans, with dignity.
About other Asisn countries, India has already decriminalized homosexuality, and Nepal has signed the UN agreement against discrimination of sexual minorities. Please get your facts right.
That is NOT the point... the point is that we are not a culturally stagnated country like the United States. Already the British people, who have centuries of heritage and history behind them, have become susceptible to these affairs (think of Elton John!). We are a country of 2500 years of civilization behind us. It is among the Westernized fools in Colombo that these sinful and horrendously explicit things are occuring. Thank your lucky stars that Mr. Rajapaksha did not order these people's execution like they would have in Cuba....!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - our 2500 years of history based on Buddhist philosophy, have been largely based on rights for everyone, including sexual minorities. If you have read enough about our culture you will realise that gay and lesbian people played a very active and prominent role in government, culture and social status. It is after Western Christian colonisation that loving who you want to was prohibited. But despite this and having a 200 year old British penal code against gay sex (not homosexuality but what was originally thought was gay sex but is actually practised by every sexuality), Sri Lanka has NEVER enforced the law, as discrimination against homosexuality is against our Buddhist culture. In fact, most Christian, Hindu and even some Muslim countries now prohibit discrimination against homosexuality. Your example of Cuba is also poor, considering that Cuba has now signed a UN declaration prohibiting discrimination against homosexuality! If there's anyone who's stagnated here - that's you and that's not even stagnated in OUR culture - you are stagnated in some Afghan/Saudi arabian culture! I suggest you move there please.
ReplyDeleteI respect your response... but I shall go further. Observe the absurdity of your logic... man has continually precipitated his downfall by succumbing to his sensual pleasures. Homosexuals are such people. It is true that man must succumb slightly to his emotions for reasons of health. But it is equally true that happiness gained through such means as expressions of homoeroticism is self-defeating and temporary (remember the Dhammapada - the man who has been conquered by thirst is one whose suffering will augment. The one who has conquered thirst is one from whom suffering will diminish).
ReplyDeleteAnd about Cuba... I am sorry not to have said in addition that after Castro came to power in 1959, he hastened the mass execution of "social deviants" - homosexuals being included in that definition.
hang thees sick homos they are abnormal and don't deserve a place amoung the normal people, they are "misfits of society."
ReplyDeleteHomosexuality is an individual's choice and those of you who are homophobic or are against this contemporary trend should seriously build a bridge and get over it. If individuals choose to be gay/lesbians, let it be, just because this doesn't make you happy. And I quote: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."
ReplyDeletePeople can have any sexuality and it shouldn't be a problem. People can't help who they area attracted to, and nor should be force anyone to change.
Stop discriminating against homosexuals and try to be humane. Think before you speak.
pnis. omnomnomnom.
ReplyDeleteHey these people represent my people and I'm proud of it...GAY PRIDE WOOHOO!!!
ReplyDeleteSincerely,

Some people want to wave the culture flag when the cultural legacy happens to match their own point of view. They feel justified in saying that because of this legacy, their point of view is the correct one. There isn't anything infallible in culture. Remember, colonialism was a legacy in its time, as was slavery, as is war in many parts of the world today, etc. Are we to say that because these things have been practiced for hundreds of years that they are right?
ReplyDeleteLike everything, cultural legacies have their imperfections. One cannot argue that because something has been done, even for centuries, that it is right. Any practice or belief has to be evaluated on its own merit. Humans and human societies evolve--thankfully. What we see now across the world is an evolution in perceptions of sexuality. Again, thankfully. People need not be unjustly oppressed any longer for their natural sexual orientation. This, ladies and gentlemen, is progress for all.
homophobes should be hanged
