The Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) has handed over a written notice to former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport to obtain a statement regarding an ongoing investigation related to the Siriliya Saviya account. This step was taken when she was preparing to depart for Singapore on September 16, 2026.

This written order, issued under Section 109(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, has informed her to appear before the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division on September 24. The relevant section provides for investigating officers to issue a written order to any person who appears to have knowledge of the facts and circumstances of a criminal incident to appear before them, and such person must appear on such an order.

Shiranthi Rajapaksa is scheduled to give a statement based on investigations into a sum of 10 million rupees provided by the National Savings Bank (NSB) to Siriliya Saviya.

Meanwhile, according to Hiru Media Network, a member of the Rajapaksa family has stated that media reports claiming former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, traveled abroad despite being notified to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division are false. The family member stated that she came directly to the airport from a private hospital.

The same family member also states that no prior summons had been issued for her to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division to give a statement. The Rajapaksa family member further stated that an airport official suddenly handed over the relevant letter to her near the airport gate when the flight was scheduled to depart at 12:50 AM today (16), and thus, this notification was given at the moment she was about to leave the country.
