Secretly operated 'underground' night club in Kompannaweediya (Slave Island) raided (photos)

Excise officers on the 21st successfully raided an underground nightclub operating very secretly, disguised as a shop in the Kompannaveediya area of Colombo, and seized a stock of liquor. This operation was carried out based on information received by officers of the Superintendent's Office of the Colombo Excise Special Operations Unit.

Investigations revealed that this underground nightclub was very cleverly designed within a premises that appeared from the outside to be a place selling short eats, including murukku, and beverages. Investigating officers were able to find the secret entrance to the premises and the nightclub after removing a shelf with murukku packets kept for sale.

Investigations confirmed that a group of customers visited this place daily, where foreign liquor was sold illegally. At the time of the raid, a stock of foreign liquor bottles prepared for sale was also taken into the custody of excise officers.

The Excise Department is making arrangements to take legal action in the future regarding this nightclub, which has been operating without any government license or prior permission.
