Driving license in 5 minutes at Dubai Airport

A new facility has been introduced for UAE citizens and residents arriving at Dubai International Airport to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) within a short period of five minutes. This service has been launched jointly by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs Dubai (GDRFA Dubai), the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Emirates Automobile and Touring Club, and the "Amer" Emirates Business Services Centre.

This service has been established within the Customer Happiness Centre located in the arrivals building of Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport and operates 24 hours a day. The main objective is to make public services more flexible and speed up processes, enabling passengers to easily obtain this permit even at the last minute before traveling abroad. To avail this facility, an Emirates ID, a valid UAE driving license, a copy of the passport, and a photograph must be submitted. Since information is instantly verified through live digital systems between the service providers, the permit can be obtained in no more than five minutes.

Major General Khalaf Ahmed Al Ghaith, Assistant Director General for Entry Permits and Residency at GDRFA Dubai, stated that this governmental integration perfectly reflects Dubai's progress in smart and proactive public services. He added that providing such services at the most opportune time, like at the airport, facilitates passenger travel and further strengthens confidence in Dubai's public service system.

Ahmed Mahboub, CEO of the Licensing Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), stated that this service demonstrates the successful cooperation between public and private entities. He further added that this instant service, operating 24 hours a day at one of the country's busiest and most important locations, confirms the UAE's global leadership in digital government services and Dubai's commitment to achieving its digital transformation goals.
