Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunnetti, stated that the government is taking steps to modernize and update the country's agricultural sector by introducing modern technology. The Minister added that the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development are working in close cooperation to achieve this objective.

He made these remarks addressing 'Pro Food - Pro Pack - Ag Biz and Knowledge Hub 2026', Sri Lanka's largest food industry exhibition, held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) premises in Colombo.

The exhibition, which commenced last Friday under the patronage of Minister Sunil Handunnetti and Ministry Secretary Mrs. Thilaka Jayasundara, successfully concluded yesterday. Organized for the 23rd time by the Sri Lanka Food Processors Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, the exhibition featured 450 stalls, with foreign exhibitors representing countries including China, India, and Germany also participating.

Aimed at building Business-to-Consumer (B2C) and Business-to-Business (B2B) connections, this exhibition is a leading platform that brings together packaging specialists, exporters, retailers, manufacturers, food processors, distributors, entrepreneurs, investors, and consumers under one roof. Minister Handunnetti pointed out that this creates numerous valuable opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and business growth.

The Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development has provided a valuable opportunity for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to showcase their innovations and secure new market opportunities through the 'SME Pavilion', specially designed for small and medium-scale food processors in Sri Lanka.
