Former mayor remanded for sexually assaulting a female government official after promising to marry her

The Akkaraipattu Magistrate's Court has ordered the former mayor of Akkaraipattu Municipal Council, Saki Athaullah, who is accused of sexually harassing a female state official after promising marriage and abusing power, to be further remanded until September 1st.




The relevant government official, who worked at the Akkaraipattu Municipal Council, recently revealed information via a Facebook live broadcast, accusing the former mayor of sexually abusing her after promising marriage and requesting justice. She later filed a complaint regarding this matter with the Ampara Children and Women's Bureau.

The suspect, who was arrested by a team of officers including Chief Police Inspector Dayani Gamage, the OIC of the Ampara Divisional Women's Bureau, when he came to give a statement regarding the complaint, was previously remanded until the 19th after being produced in court, and that period has now been further extended.




Former Mayor Saki Athaullah is the son of former Minister ALM Athaullah.
