Arrangements have been made to hold a special discussion regarding the organization of the upcoming Grade Five Scholarship Examination and the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination, in light of schools being closed due to adverse weather conditions. Mr. Ajith Wijemann, Director General of the Department of Meteorology, stated that this meeting will be held with the participation of representatives from the Department of Meteorology, the Disaster Management Centre, and the Department of Examinations.

Attention will be focused on the future steps to be taken to ensure that examination activities proceed without interruption, in light of the current rainy weather conditions prevailing across the island. As a preparatory step to successfully face any situation that may arise during the examination period, the relevant discussion has been organized on the 5th of this month, in collaboration with the Department of Examinations and the Disaster Management Centre.

Although August is generally a period of low rainfall, the Director General stated that due to the active monsoon weather, a temporary rainy condition has currently been created. However, a decrease in the prevailing rainfall is expected after the upcoming 6th, 7th, and 8th.

Since the relevant examination activities are scheduled to begin after the 10th, it is estimated that the impact of this adverse weather will significantly decrease by that time. However, Mr. Ajith Wijemann further explained that due to the impact of a cyclonic condition forming in the Pacific Ocean region after the upcoming 6th, there could be some increase in rainfall on the island.
