
Two youths who were returning home on a motorcycle after watching a music concert in the Horana area, died in a severe road accident that occurred yesterday (19) around 2:30 AM. Horana Headquarters Police confirm that the accident took place in a winding area near Kananwila Temple on the Horana - Moragahahena road.
The deceased in the accident are 25-year-old Degambada Gamalallage Dilshan Madusara Seneviratne, a resident of Pannipitiya, and 17-year-old Udeesh Sithmina, a resident of Kiriwaththuduwa. They sustained serious injuries when the motorcycle they were traveling on collided with a tipper truck transporting sand and died after being admitted to Horana District General Hospital.
According to preliminary police investigations, it is suspected that the motorcycle, which was coming from the direction of Horana, was unable to control its speed while taking the Kananwila bend, veered into the right lane, and collided with an oncoming tipper truck. Due to the severity of the accident, the motorcycle sustained extensive damage, and the police have taken steps to conduct post-mortem examinations on the bodies of the two deceased. Furthermore, the driver of the tipper truck involved in the accident has been arrested and was scheduled to be produced before the Horana Magistrate's Court yesterday (19).
