A person was injured by a police shooting when police attempted to apprehend an armed group that had broken into a house located on O.P. Perera Mawatha, Boralesgamuwa, assaulted people with sharp weapons, and were fleeing. Police investigations have revealed that the injured person is a follower of 'Kos Malli', an organized criminal and drug trafficker.
This attack was carried out due to a dispute related to drugs, and at the time of the shooting, a tense situation had arisen in the area.Yesterday (19) around 1:30 AM, a group arriving on two motorcycles severely damaged the property and assaulted the people who were fast asleep in the said house with sharp weapons. Following information received by Boralesgamuwa Police regarding the assault, officers learned that the suspects were fleeing towards Piliyandala and took up positions on that road. There, a motorcycle that came forward attempted to turn back, and at that moment, its rider collided with a police officer, injuring him. Subsequently, as the pillion rider attempted to attack with a sharp weapon, an officer acted and fired his service firearm, causing the injured person to fall off the motorcycle.
At that moment, the suspect riding the motorcycle fled amidst the gunfire, and later, the police were able to find the abandoned motorcycle in the Koskanaththa Road area of Piliyandala. A 24-year-old woman injured in this attack, the injured police officer, and the suspect, a resident of Bandaragama area, have currently been admitted to Kalubowila Teaching Hospital for further treatment. Boralesgamuwa and Piliyandala Police Stations are conducting further investigations into the incident.
