'Sando's father was shot at the Galkissa Public Cemetery

Dehiwala Police state that the caretaker who was on duty at the Dehiwala - Mount Lavinia 'Nisala Sewana' public cemetery was seriously injured yesterday evening after being shot by two unknown gunmen dressed in white.

The person who was shot is 56-year-old Kuruwita Arachchilage Sumith Rupasena, a resident of Obanside Fishermen's Housing Scheme in Dehiwala. It has been revealed that he is the father of Kavindu Madusanka alias 'Sando', a member of an organized crime gang and a drug trafficker.

At the time of the incident, the injured person, after completing some duty at the cemetery, was with two other employees near the place where alms are offered for funeral ceremonies. The two suspects arrived on a scooter-type motorcycle, parked it in front of the cemetery, and wearing helmets, walked about 20 meters to launch the attack.

Several shots fired from a pistol-type firearm hit the injured person's chest and left arm. After the attack, the suspects walked back to their motorcycle and fled the area, and Dehiwala Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
