The Federation of University Teachers' Associations (FUTA) warns that if the government does not provide swift solutions to the problems that have arisen due to the new circular issued regarding the admission of students to Grade One, they will withdraw from the evaluation of answer scripts for the upcoming G.C.E. Advanced Level examination.

Professor Prageeth Weerathunga, President of the Federation of University Teachers' Associations, states that this new circular has caused serious injustice to the children of university teachers. He points out that despite holding several discussions with the authorities over the past year and a half regarding this matter, the government's failure to provide proper solutions has forced them to resort to this strong trade union action.

This trade union action was unanimously decided upon at a recent main meeting of all university teachers' trade unions. Accordingly, as a preliminary step, they have taken immediate action to withdraw from all voluntary services provided by university teachers related to the school education sector, including curriculum revisions, module updates, teacher training programs, and conferences.

Professor Weerathunga stated that they are giving the current government two weeks to provide a fair solution for this, emphasizing that if no proper response is received within that period, a final decision will be made regarding participation in the evaluation of answer scripts for the upcoming Advanced Level examination. He further mentioned that if a situation persists where their children are deprived of schooling despite discussions held for over a year and a half, there is no point in further discussions with the government.
