Veteran singer Mariyansel Gunathilaka, who left an indelible mark in the Sri Lankan music field, passed away this morning (10). She had been ill for some time and died while receiving treatment at Kalubowila Teaching Hospital. She was 68 years old at the time of her death. Although it was initially reported that the final rites would be held within 24 hours according to her request, this decision was changed by the family members due to several practical reasons.

The final rites for the late Mariyansel Gunathilaka will be held next Monday (13) at 5:00 PM at the Borella General Cemetery. Arrangements have been made to place her remains at the Borella Barney Raymond Funeral Parlour from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the same day, where friends and fans will have the opportunity to pay their last respects.

She was an exceptional artist who shaped the local art world with her Western-style fast-paced rhythmic singing, captivating the hearts of fans for decades. Her creations such as “Kandy Lamissi”, “Rahasai Sonduru Jeewe”, “Sihina Nelum Mal”, “Kumaranane”, and “Yowun Seena Loke” became extremely popular among listeners in this country.
