The International Cricket Council (ICC) has advised the authorities to hold the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) election as soon as possible. Although some progress has been shown regarding the amendment of the SLC constitution, the ICC further points out that SLC still does not have the right to represent ICC board meetings at this moment.
In addition, the international cricket body has warned that Sri Lanka Cricket is at risk of being blacklisted again due to political interference, similar to a previous instance.
However, reports emerged recently that during a discussion held in Colombo on June 22 between ICC Chief Jay Shah and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, a request was made to hold the election before July 31.
However, the Presidential Media Division has rejected the news as false and misleading. The new interim committee of Sri Lanka Cricket also commented on this, stating that no such discussion regarding holding an election or a threat of blacklisting had taken place.
