Father's best friend raped the 13-year-old daughter

A 35-year-old man accused of building a romantic relationship with his friend's 13-year-old minor daughter and sexually abusing her has been arrested by Marawila Police. The arrested individual is a close friend of the girl's father, working as a laborer.

Police investigations have revealed that the suspect lured the student and sexually abused her on three occasions. It has been further revealed that the crime was committed by going to the girl's house when no one was home, as well as by taking her to a holiday resort located in the Thoduwawa police division.

Acting on the statements given by the girl, who is studying in Grade 7 at a school, the police arrested the suspect yesterday evening on charges of abduction and rape without parental custody. Steps have also been taken to hospitalize the abused minor girl for further medical examination.

Under the instructions of Marawila Headquarters Police Station OIC Chief Inspector Sarath Samarawickrama, a team of officers including Police Inspector Sirimanna from the Children and Women's Bureau of the same headquarters police is conducting further investigations into the incident. The arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Marawila Magistrate's Court.
