A gazette notification to establish a new prison in Mahamodara

An extraordinary gazette notification issued by the Minister of Justice and National Integration, Mr. Harshana Nanayakkara, has stipulated the establishment of a new prison in the Mahamodara area of Galle.

The relevant gazette notification has been issued with the signature of the Minister of Justice, Mr. Harshana Nanayakkara, exercising the powers vested in the Minister under Section 2 of the Prisons Ordinance.

According to the gazette notification, this prison will be established under the name “Mahamodara,” and its jurisdiction has been stipulated to cover the entirety of Sri Lanka. Upon inquiry, the Ministry of Justice stated that this prison is to be operated on a temporary basis in a section of the closed Mahamodara Hospital.
