What Salley's wife is asking for is different from what Gammampila and others are asking for.

Currently, there is a strong discussion in society regarding Mr. Suresh Salley, former head of the State Intelligence Service and retired Major General, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department and is being held under detention orders in connection with the extensive investigations currently underway into the brutal terrorist attack launched on Easter Sunday. It is observed that there is an organized attempt to portray his mother, wife, son, and brother as being in a state of severe helplessness by using them for various media publicity activities with the specific aim of securing his release.

A point that drew significant attention was the statement made by Mr. Suresh Salley's son to the media in English. He requested through the media that his father was being unjustly detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and that the act should be immediately repealed. However, a clear contradiction can also be seen between this statement and other activities taking place in the political arena.

These days, a political group including Messrs. Namal Rajapaksa, Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, and Dilith Jayaweera has launched a satyagraha and protest in the form of a media spectacle in front of the Fort Railway Station in Colombo, expressing support for Mr. Suresh Salley. The participants in this satyagraha, which began with accusations that Mr. Salley, who is being held by the Criminal Investigation Department, is being treated inhumanely, are spending nights near the railway station, and it has been continuously ongoing for several days now. However, it is surprising that this political group has not put forward any slogans regarding the repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, which was emphasized by Mr. Salley's son, in their protest. Furthermore, there is no mention of this act in Mr. Suresh Salley's own requests to the government or authorities. Instead, his main demands have been the removal of Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Shani Abeysekara from the Criminal Investigation Department, the transfer of investigations against him to another independent institution, and a change in his current place of detention.

Clarifying the government's stance on this entire situation, Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister of Mass Media and Health, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, made a special statement at a media briefing announcing cabinet decisions. The Minister strongly rejected allegations that Mr. Suresh Salley was tortured during his detention, emphasizing that the same standard legal procedure applied to any other suspect held under detention orders in the past was followed for him, and that no special treatment or discrimination occurred. The Minister stated that no suspect under the Criminal Investigation Department is specifically tortured, and declared that no matter how many protests are held or how many stages are set up, the government will not stop the lawful investigations initiated regarding the Easter attack. Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa pointed out that there was no uproar against Mr. Suresh Salley during the initial ninety days, and that this special outcry and satyagraha began after the court imposed a travel ban on three individuals, including former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He further stated that if one is innocent, they should support the investigations, not obstruct them, and only then can such brutal killings be prevented in the future.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Manori Salley, wife of Mr. Suresh Salley, and her son have met with the Mahanayake Theros of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters of the Tri-Mahavihara to engage in a special discussion, requesting their intervention to ensure justice for her husband. They exchanged views with the Mahanayake Theros for over an hour, kindly requesting them to act as an intermediary party to resolve this crisis. Additionally, Mrs. Manori Salley has sent a letter to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, requesting the immediate cancellation of the current detention order against her husband. In the letter, she informed the President that an official report from the Judicial Medical Officer, prepared according to court orders, was received when the case was called before the Fort Magistrate's Court on May 20th, and that the conclusions of this report confirmed her statements that her husband suffered severe physical and mental distress while in detention. Therefore, she requested intervention to remove the detention order, taking into account these humanitarian and legal circumstances. Amidst this situation, the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court is expected to issue an order in response to the Attorney General's request to direct Mr. Suresh Salley to a panel of specialist doctors and obtain a report.

Meanwhile, Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney-at-Law Harsha Nanayakkara, also revealed several extremely critical facts while commenting on this investigation process in Parliament. The Minister explained that if the investigations go beyond Mr. Salley, i.e., higher up from him, the real mastermind of the Easter attack will be found, and that certain political groups are agitated and shouting not out of love for Mr. Salley, but with the narrow objective of preventing the investigations from going beyond him. He also confirmed that no one raised a voice when Mr. Salley was previously in detention for ninety days, and that all these lamentations began after a foreign travel ban was imposed on Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Mr. Harsha Nanayakkara stated that the current government will not suppress freedom of speech in any way, and that the era of burning down television stations is over, announcing that the Prevention of Terrorism Act will be completely repealed and a new law introduced within the next two months. He also emphasized that the executive does not interfere in matters such as the transfer of judges, stating that it is an independent process through the Judicial Service Commission, and affirmed that the National People's Power government's promise to deliver justice to victims will definitely be fulfilled.

Meanwhile, former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka made another serious accusation against Mr. Suresh Salley at a press conference held in Colombo. Mr. Fonseka stated that Major General Suresh Salley was responsible for paying thousands of extremists, including Zahran Hashim, who is considered the main suspect in the Easter attack, and that he carried out all these activities with the direct knowledge and full permission of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The former Army Commander accused Suresh Salley of acting more as a slave to Gotabaya Rajapaksa than a regular military officer, stating that Salley did nothing without Rajapaksa's knowledge and acted as a priest for the Rajapaksas. Sarath Fonseka further revealed that although he had removed Mr. Suresh Salley from intelligence positions during his tenure as Army Commander, Gotabaya Rajapaksa later arranged for him to be re-assigned to the Ministry of Defense.
