A person who was transporting cattle in a small lorry with their mouths tightly bound to prevent their cries from being heard outside, has been arrested by the Bandaragama Police. This raid was carried out on the evening of the 13th at Uyanwatta Road, Kothalawala, Bandaragama, and the arrested individual has a history of numerous previous offenses related to cattle theft.
Upon inspecting the lorry taken into police custody, police officers were able to find a two-year-old Murrah buffalo and a two-year-old Friesian cow hidden inside. These searches were carried out based on a confidential tip received by the Bandaragama Police Station that animals were being transported in a covered small lorry.
During initial questioning by the police, it was revealed that these two animals were being transported for sale to a butcher shop in the Homagama area. Steps have been taken to issue special messages to other police stations island-wide to confirm whether the animals in the possession of the suspect, a resident of Aluthgama, Bandaragama, were stolen. The suspect is expected to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate's Court under charges of illegal animal transportation without a license and animal cruelty.
