A Sri Lankan family among those missing in the Nepal disaster

Australian media reports that among those who went missing in the great flood that severely impacted Nepal and Tibet are four members of an Australian family of Sri Lankan origin. They faced this disaster while participating in the pilgrimage to the highly sacred Kailash-Manasarovar in the Himalayan region.

Those who went missing are 47-year-old Chandrasekaran Muralidharan, his 42-year-old wife Shailaja Muralidharan, and their two sons, 14-year-old Ashwin and 11-year-old Aarush, all residents of Sydney. Mr. Chandrasekaran, who was born in Kopay, Jaffna, and later migrated to Australia, had his two children born in Australia.

Mr. Chandrasekaran and his family were traveling to worship 'Kailash Koot' mountain in Nepal, joining an Indian pilgrimage group organized through 'Himalayan Glacier Adventures'. It is suspected that this group, which included 15 other Indians, may have been caught in the disaster in the 'Rasuwagadhi' area, located near the Nepal-China border.

Australian authorities have stated that no information about the missing family members has been revealed so far, and the total number of Australian tourists caught in this flood is 43. Foreign media further reports that the death toll from this major natural disaster, which spread across Nepal and Tibet, has exceeded 1,000, with nearly 4,000 more people still missing.
