Two graves located in the Pranagama cemetery, where the bodies of two young men who drowned in the Thawalgoda canal in the Kosgama area were buried, have been dug up by a group of people for a mysterious ritual. Preliminary police investigations have revealed that a group of 'mantra gurus' (exorcists) who came from the Mahiyangana area carried out this act to ward off a demonic affliction believed to have affected their wife.

After receiving complaints regarding this unfortunate incident, Kosgama Police launched an investigation, and officers took steps to examine CCTV camera footage installed in the surrounding area. The footage revealed that a group of people brought a stock of equipment required for a demonic offering ritual to the site by lorry and motorcycle, and then dug up the graves where the bodies were buried, performing the rituals to a depth of about two feet.

Upon questioning the owner of the relevant house, who was arrested in connection with the suspicious incident, he admitted to collaborating with this group of 'mantra gurus' to cure his wife's illness. The arrested suspect was produced before the Avissawella Magistrate's Court and subsequently released on bail. The relatives of the deceased young men have been informed, based on a court order, to re-close the respective graves.

Due to this incident, a tense situation arose around the cemetery last Tuesday evening, and local residents, suspecting damage to the coffins inside the graves, re-dug the pits to inspect them. Kosgama Police are conducting further investigations to apprehend the group of 'mantra gurus' involved in the incident.
