
Five individuals who attempted to sell a rare rock, suspected to be of archaeological or antique value, for two crore rupees, have been arrested by the Pulmudai Police. The suspects had taken this rock to an individual in the Mullaitivu area for sale, and as the buyer did not purchase it, they were returning in a motor vehicle when they were arrested by the police in the Thennamarawadi area, which falls under the Pulmudai Police division.
According to a confidential tip received by the Pulmudai Police OIC, during this raid conducted on the 15th, officers succeeded in taking into police custody the five suspects, the motor vehicle they were traveling in, and the relevant rock. Those arrested are residents of Trincomalee, Puliyankulam, and Eachchalampattu areas, aged between 29 and 57 years.
The arrested suspects are to be produced before the Kuchchaveli Circuit Magistrate's Court, and arrangements have been made to call for an archaeological report with court permission to definitively confirm the true nature and actual antique value of this rock. Under the instructions of Pulmudai Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. Charitha A.B. Jayasundara, a team of officers including Pulmudai Police OIC, Police Inspector Mr. Anila Thilak Bandara, is conducting further investigations into the incident.
