Kalutara South Police report a story where a group of police officers who went to raid an illicit liquor den operating in the Galpatha area of Kalutara were attacked by eight ferocious dogs incited by a woman present at the scene. Due to this horrific attack, four officers, including the Anguruwatota Police Station OIC, were injured.

Among the injured, OIC, Police Inspector Asanka Rajakaruna and Police Constable (96625) Manoj were admitted to Kalutara Nagoda General Hospital, while Police Inspector Sudheera and Constable (83935) Krishantha also sustained minor injuries.

The house where the illegal liquor trade was taking place is located in the Sohonapahala Diyagama area, which falls under the Kalutara North Police Division. Within this premises, surrounded by walls 8 to 10 feet high, the illicit trade had been operating successfully for a long time, meticulously providing snacks for liquor consumers, much like a restaurant. Although two special units of the Kalutara Police had attempted to raid this location on two previous occasions, the operation was not carried out properly. Therefore, according to an order by Deputy Inspector General of Police Padmini Weerasuriya, who is in charge of the Kalutara Division, the responsibility for this raid was assigned to the Anguruwatota Police on the 27th of last month.

Accordingly, a team including the Anguruwatota Police Station OIC raided the house and arrested the suspect with 1000 ml of illegal liquor. At that moment, the suspect's wife simultaneously opened the cages of eight expensive and ferocious dogs, including German Shepherds and Rottweilers, which were caged in the house, and incited them against the police officers. In connection with this criminal coercion and assault, which obstructed police duty, the police have arrested both the liquor trafficker and his wife, and further investigations are underway.
