The main shooter involved in the recent inhumane murder of a person by shooting in the Palliya Para area of Wettumakada, Kalutara, has been arrested by the Kalutara Crime Division in the Maligawatta area of Colombo. The arrested individual is 44-year-old Sampath Kumaratunga, also known by the alias 'Bonchiya', a resident of Mahimulla, Payagala.

While the suspect was secretly hiding in a house in the Maligawatta area, officers from the Kalutara Crime Division apprehended him after extensive surveillance through security camera footage in the area.

The arrested 'Bonchiya' is a former army personnel, and police investigations have revealed that he is severely addicted to drugs.

He has previously been accused on several occasions of possessing and trafficking heroin, and the suspect is to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate's Court to obtain a detention order for further investigations.

The deceased person named 'Aasi' was also accused of various charges, and although it was initially attempted to portray this murder as a result of a normal personal dispute, investigations have confirmed that the background to it was a conflict related to providing information.

'Imran', who is considered the main planner of this murder, had previously provided shelter at his home to a shooter and a motorcyclist who came for an underworld activity, and the suspicion that the deceased Aasi had provided information about this became the main reason for this murder.

Furthermore, it is stated that an alleged illicit relationship between Imran's first wife and the deceased also contributed to intensifying this animosity.

The planner, Imran, has already been arrested by the Panadura Walana Anti-Corruption Strike Unit and is currently undergoing further interrogation under detention orders.

Information has revealed that a person named 'Kalutara Naveen' provided firearms and accommodation for the suspects for this crime, and Imran and Bonchiya arrived together in a car for the shooting.

'Bonchiya', who is said to have previously rejected a 9mm firearm offered for a shooting and instead requested a T56 type firearm, also used a T56 firearm for this murder.

After committing the murder, the suspects did not distance themselves from the area but remained nearby before fleeing to Colombo, and the police suspect that the main shooter may have accepted this contract solely for the purpose of obtaining drugs.

Through interrogations of the arrested main shooter, the police expect to uncover all information regarding other individuals behind this murder and the rest of the group who were in the vehicle used for the crime.
