The renowned Bloomberg travel website reveals that Sri Lanka has become the foremost destination for tourists who are increasingly concerned about their physical fitness in the world. Sri Lanka has secured the first place among the top ten countries chosen by individuals who prefer to travel with health and wellness as their objective.

The reports also indicate that the interest shown by foreign tourists in Sri Lanka for wellness tourism has increased by one hundred percent, especially during the past year.

Wellness tourism is rapidly growing in the global travel market, and it is estimated that tourists will spend a massive amount of US$1.4 trillion on this sector by next year. The Bloomberg website emphasizes that this global trend presents a significant economic opportunity for Sri Lanka's tourism industry. A major advantage for Sri Lanka is that a tourist spends a very minimal amount, such as US$372.18, for a seven-day wellness holiday in Sri Lanka, a country with a traditional Ayurvedic medical history spanning over two thousand years.

In addition, the Sri Lankan government had taken steps to waive visa fees for 40 countries worldwide, effective from May 25th, for the promotion of the country's tourism sector. The Bloomberg website also points out in its report that this beneficial measure allows a foreign tourist family to save nearly US$200 even before arriving in Sri Lanka.

According to this latest classification by the Bloomberg website, Australia holds the second place and Morocco the third place among the countries most preferred for wellness travel. Asian regional countries Nepal and Thailand have secured the sixth and seventh places respectively, while the last place in this ranking belongs to Calgary.
