Major General Suresh Salley, former head of the State Intelligence Service, who is currently in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the Easter Sunday terrorist attack, is at a high risk of committing suicide, his lawyers informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court today (03). These facts were presented to the court through a motion by President's Counsel Shavendra Fernando and Attorney-at-Law Asith Siriwardhana, on behalf of Mr. Salley, who was arrested on suspicion of planning this attack and named as the third suspect in the investigations.

The lawyers, presenting facts before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara, pointed out that their client has been subjected to torture while in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department. According to the forensic medical reports issued so far, it was also revealed that he is suffering from severe anxiety, depression, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The lawyers emphasized before the court that the main cause of these conditions is the inhumane activities he allegedly faced.

Considering this serious mental health condition, the lawyers requested the Magistrate to immediately remove Mr. Suresh Salley from the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department, transfer him to another suitable location, and take steps to provide him with the necessary psychiatric treatment. However, it is reported that when this motion was called, no lawyer representing the Attorney General's Department, the Criminal Investigation Department, or the aggrieved party appeared in court.

Accordingly, Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara, having considered all the facts presented, took steps to issue notices to the relevant parties. The court further decided to recall the case, ordering the Criminal Investigation Department to appear in court tomorrow (04) at 2:00 PM to present facts related to this motion.
