I will start EV factories in Sri Lanka, similar to my father's 200 garment factories program.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stated the following while addressing a political meeting held yesterday.

"...import electric vehicles. We need to move to the next step. Establish an electric vehicle factory system in our country, similar to the two hundred garment factories, and implement a clear, targeted program to manufacture those vehicles." "Various people, as usual, mock us, asking how electric vehicles can be manufactured in our country. It's common in our country to laugh when something new is proposed. Many people laughed when the program for two hundred garment factories was implemented. They laughed and said, 'No, we should always remain a country that imports garment products.'

Back then, they laughed, hurled various insults, ridiculed us, and said that young men and women in our towns and villages were being directed to sew clothes for foreign women. But what has happened to the apparel sector today? It has become one of the main sources of foreign exchange for our country. Therefore, in reality, it's not just about popularizing the use of electric vehicles, nor just importing them; we have a vision to establish factories that manufacture EVs (Electric Vehicles) in our own country. That is our current and future vision, our philosophy.

"For that, some might say, 'How can these factories be established in our country? There are issues with electricity bills, and many other problems, including various labor issues.' I see the presentation of these problems as reasons not to establish factories. To establish these factories, the Ranasinghe Premadasa method must be implemented. What is that method? It is to give the opportunity today, set a few dates, and declare, 'We will open this many factories in this country.' When such an order and instructions are given to officials and investors, and a date for opening is provided, officials will be compelled to provide the necessary permits, land, facilities, and special incentives for this sector..."
