The 23rd FIFA World Cup Football Tournament is currently being held in the North American region with great grandeur, marking a monumental turning point in the history of world football. This year's tournament is special because it is the first World Cup to be held with the participation of 48 teams, across 104 matches, and co-hosted by three countries.

This grand football festival will take place from June 11 to July 19 across 16 host stadiums spread throughout Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The United States contributes 11 stadiums, Mexico 3 stadiums, and Canada 2 stadiums for this event.

The opening ceremony of the tournament was held with great splendor, attended by many world-renowned stars. Following this, host Mexico faced South Africa in the inaugural match. Mexico managed to secure an excellent 2-0 victory over South Africa in this match held at the famous Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. This stadium makes history as the only stadium in the world to host three World Cup opening matches, after 1970 and 1986. All arrangements have been made for the grand final, which will decide the championship, to be held on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New York.

According to this year's tournament format, preliminary round matches will be played under 12 groups, each consisting of four teams. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the 32-team knockout stage. Preliminary round matches will be held from June 11 to 27, after which the decisive knockout matches will begin. 206 countries participated in the qualification rounds held from 2023 until the end of March 2026, with the three host countries automatically qualifying. Curaçao stands out as the smallest nation to qualify for the World Cup this year, while Cape Verde and Jordan are also making their first appearance on the World Cup stage. Iraq also secured its place by defeating Bolivia in the final qualification matches.

In the first few days of the tournament, several strong teams have managed to assert their dominance. Mexico and South Korea (defeating the Czech Republic 2-1), competing in Group 'A', are currently leading. In Group 'B', the match between Canada and Bosnia ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving all teams in that group on equal footing. The United States has made a strong start in Group 'D', sweeping aside Paraguay with a 4-1 victory in a match held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Additionally, Scotland defeated Haiti 1-0, and Australia defeated Turkey 2-0. However, matches between Brazil and Morocco, as well as Qatar and Switzerland, also ended in 1-1 draws.

Audience enthusiasm continues to rise as many crucial matches are scheduled to take place in the coming days, including Germany vs. Curaçao and Netherlands vs. Japan. The new tournament format has significantly increased competitiveness, and the performances of smaller nations against stronger ones are noteworthy. This massive sporting event provides a significant economic boost to the North American region, with billions of viewers worldwide watching the matches live through major media networks and the official FIFA website.
