US President Donald Trump has once again rejected Iran's latest proposal to stop the ongoing war with Iran. He stated that the Iranian leadership is in a state of severe confusion, and even though they tried to reach an agreement, there was no agreement among themselves.

Iran had also submitted proposals on April 26 and 27, and according to White House officials, the absence of any mention of the nuclear issue in this new proposal has caused strong displeasure for President Trump.

Although Iran stated that the Strait of Hormuz should be immediately opened and the nuclear issue could be discussed later, the American President's stance is that both these issues must be resolved simultaneously. Trump also emphasized that Iran must surrender its enriched uranium before coming to the negotiating table. Meanwhile, angered by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's criticism of the Trump administration, stating that Iran has been humiliated before America, America has also decided to withdraw 5,000 American troops stationed in its NATO ally, Germany.

President Trump, stating that he does not need Congressional approval to take military action against Iran, also accused those who seek such approval of not being patriots. Furthermore, the White House has informed Speaker Mike Johnson and Senator Chuck Grassley in a letter that the war with Iran has officially ended, as military operations that began on February 28, 2026, have concluded. For this reason, the government states that the law requiring war authorization within 60 days does not apply to them. However, American troops remain in the region, and because 12 out of 53 Republican senators opposed this war, Trump refrained from submitting a resolution for war authorization. Democratic representatives state that the war cannot be considered over merely because the bombing has stopped. Additionally, Trump emphasized that Iran would never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, as it poses a great threat to the world, and expressed his strong displeasure with countries like Spain and Italy for not providing full support to America in its actions against Iran.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Iran's strategies have been severely weakened in the face of strict maritime sanctions imposed by America. Oil supplies to major buyers like China have been disrupted, and ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has fallen by about 90%. In that region, where about 130 ships used to pass daily, now fewer than 10 ships travel. America has warned that any company paying Iran to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, even if it's a charitable act, could face sanctions. Trump has stated that these sanctions by the US Navy have been very profitable, and that while seizing Iranian oil and goods might resemble an act of piracy to some extent, this is not a game. Meanwhile, the President has also been briefed by the Commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) regarding potential attack options against Iran.

Diplomatic tensions between the two countries have further escalated, and US Secretary of State Scott Bessent severely criticized Iranian leaders, calling them 'sewer rats' and stating that they are completely detached from reality. In response, the Iranian Embassy in South Africa stated that America has been defeated in the war and that such statements demonstrate their frustration. Meanwhile, a severe political crisis has also emerged within Iran, and it is reported that there are preparations to remove Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi from his post for directly conducting nuclear talks with America under the instructions of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander Ahmad Vahidi, bypassing Iranian President Peseshkian and Speaker Ghalibaf. Additionally, it is further reported that 14 IRGC soldiers who were deactivating old explosives in Iran's Zanjan province have died in an explosion.
