The Administrative Appeals Tribunal has issued an order to the National Police Commission to promote Mr. Shani Abeysekara, a former director of the Criminal Investigation Department, to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police. According to reports, this promotion should be effective from August 25, 2020.

Mr. Abeysekara had previously filed an appeal with the National Police Commission, stating that he had been subjected to various acts of revenge and that he had been deprived of his due promotions as a result. However, after the Police Commission rejected his request, he took steps to refer his appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. After a lengthy hearing of the facts related to the matter, the relevant order to grant this promotion has been announced.

The National Police Commission has already turned its attention to this decision by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, and police sources confirm that the relevant official order will be issued today or tomorrow. Furthermore, as the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police in the Criminal Investigation Department has been vacant for over a year, these sources further reveal that there is a high probability that Mr. Shani Abeysekara will be appointed to that vacant position.
